Grading Policy

Students are required to have a three subject notebook and a pencil each day for class. Homework, class notes, and a writing journal will be kept in the notebook. The notebook will be graded once during the marking period and comprise 10% of the final marking period grade.

Homework will be assigned every night and is worth 30% of the grade for the marking period. Completed homework receives 10 out of 10 points. Incomplete homework receives 5 out of 10 points. 8 out of 10 points are given when an incomplete assignment is completed. Late homework will be given 6 out of 10 points. It is imperative that the students complete homework nightly! Students are required to work 30 minutes each night on math homework. If a student cannot complete an assignment, then they must explain in writing why they experienced difficulty. This is new school policy. It is not acceptable to simply say, ”I don’t understand the homework.” Students are to explain the point at which they became confused and indicate where they experienced problems.

Tests comprise 30% of the marking period grade. There will be two or three tests during a marking period. All tests will be announced in class and on the class website at least three days prior to the test date.

Quizzes comprise 30% of the marking period grade and may or may not be announced. There will usually be four or five quizzes during a marking period.
