Grade 8 Math and Algebra Grading Policy

Students are required to have a three subject notebook and a pencil each day for class. Homework, class notes, and a writing journal will be kept in the notebook. The notebook will be graded once during the marking period and count toward the Classwork grade. As per Administrative Directive, the following will be used to compute student math grades for the 2010-2011 school year.

Homework will be assigned every night and is worth 20% of the grade for the marking period. Completed homework receives 10 out of 10 points. Incomplete homework receives 5 out of 10 points. 8 out of 10 points are given when an incomplete assignment is completed. Late homework will be given 6 out of 10 points. It is imperative that the students complete homework nightly! Students are required to work 20-30 minutes each night on math homework.

Tests comprise 40% of the marking period grade. There will be two or three tests during a marking period. All tests will be announced in class and on the class website at least three days prior to the test date.

Quizzes comprise 30% of the marking period grade and may or may not be announced. There will usually be four or five quizzes during a marking period.

Classwork will count for 10% of the marking period grade. Classwork may be assigned at the end of a lesson for reinforcement. The notebook will also be graded in this category.
